The Rangen vineyard in Thann is the southernmost in Alsace and the only one in the region to be classified as a Grand Cru in its entirety.
Its hillsides (350 to 450m), facing south, cover an area of 22 ha with slopes of up to 45°.
You have certainly already seen reports on TV about its spectacular and perilous harvests! In certain plots, the grape-pickers are roped up for a real mountaineering course! Strong sensations guaranteed!
This vineyard owes its reputation to its terroir on volcanic soil, to the presence of the river Thur which provides the humidity necessary for the ripening of the grapes.
This vineyard produces 4 exceptional grape varieties:
- Riesling: a mineral, complex, full-bodied wine with a long finish and a racy, ripe acidity.
- Pinot Gris: found in volcanic soils, hence its presence in the Rangen. It is an ample, powerful, complex wine, often marked by smoky and flinty aromas with a salty acidity.
- Gewürztraminer: is the most typical Alsatian wine. Its colour is golden and very bright. It is an aromatic, ample, fruity and mineral wine.
- Muscat: dry and aromatic, with an inimitable fruitiness.
A signposted path allows you to walk there (3 walks for 3 levels, hats are a must!)
