The Stork is the emblem of both Alsace and Cernay. In 1978, one of the first reintroduction centre was set up in Cernay, in order to protect the birds.

Nowadays, about 60 storcks live in the park permanently, and each year, there are approximately 30 births.

The storcks are free to come and go in town and are often seen flying in the city center or looking for food in the river nearby the park. The best time to see all of them is mealtime, when they all come back to the park.
